Gleeden vs Ashley Madison in India: How the Two Actually Differ
The two best-known extramarital platforms in India compared on what matters: who is actually on them, how they charge, privacy design and their track records.
These are the two names people search for in this category in India. We compete with both, so treat this as informed rather than neutral — we have stuck to publicly verifiable points.
The headline difference
Gleeden is French, founded in 2009, and markets itself as woman-run and woman-first. Ashley Madison is Canadian, founded in 2002, and is far larger globally. Gleeden made a deliberate push into India from around 2017 and has repeatedly said India is among its fastest-growing markets, with growth concentrated in the metros.

The credit model, and why it shapes everything
Both run the same economics: women use the platform free, men buy credits to initiate contact. It is the standard model in this category for a sound reason — without it these platforms have no women on them, and without women they have no men either.
The structural risk is the one the FTC action against Ashley Madison exposed. If revenue comes from men sending messages, the platform is financially rewarded for there being people to message, whether or not those people are real. Every platform in this category, ours included, should be judged on how it answers that.
What to ask of any of us: are AI or operator-run accounts labelled as such? Are they excluded from published member counts? Can you ever be charged to contact one? If those three answers are not immediate and specific, treat the numbers on the homepage as marketing.
Privacy design
Both offer photo blurring, discreet billing and private photo albums released to chosen contacts. The question worth asking is where the blurring happens. A mask applied in the browser can be stripped by anybody who opens the network tab; a separately generated masked file on the server cannot. It is worth checking on whichever platform you use, including this one — ours are generated server-side, with the original never sent to a browser that has not been given a key.
For Indian users specifically
- Foreign currency billing adds bank charges, and a foreign-currency line on a statement is itself slightly more memorable than a domestic one.
- Support in Indian time zones is limited on both.
- Activity outside the top five cities drops off sharply on both. If you are in Indore, Kochi or Lucknow, check before you buy credits.
- Neither holds Indian data locally, which matters for how a DPDP Act request or a grievance complaint gets handled.
Are they legal in India?
Yes. Petitions have been filed seeking bans on this category of app; none has succeeded. Adultery has not been a crime in India since 2018. Full detail here.
